New Delhi, June 8 (IANS) Septuagenarian Gandhian Anna Hazare should not fast frequently as it may worsen his health, his doctor said Wednesday.
Hazare began a daylong token fast at Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, to denounce the police crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev's anti-corruption protest last week.
Speaking to IANS over phone from Pune, Parag Sancheti, 73-year-old Hazare's doctor from Sancheti Institute of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, said: 'Considering his age and his health condition we suggested that he should not fast frequently as it will have an impact on his health.'
'Apart from osteoarthritis, Hazare also has high cholesterol and blood pressure and we strongly recommend him not to go in for such frequent fasts. His health deteriorated because of his protest in April,' Sancheti said.
The anti-corruption crusader went on a 97-hour fast in April in New Delhi demanding a strong anti-graft Lokpal bill.
